Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I‘m not AM cute or AND built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
‘Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

A real woman?

I read that a real woman always keeps her house clean and organized, the laundry basket is always empty. She’s always well dressed, hair done. She never swears, behaves gracefully in all situations and all circumstances. She has more than enough patience to take care of her family, always has a smile on her lips, and a kind word for everyone. Post this as your status if you, too, suspect that you might be a man…author unknown

Quote of the day

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

New Patterns of Living Are Open to me

You must realize what is actually going on before you can effectively deal with it.
– Ralpha

When our fears, weaknesses and views about life are colored by low self-esteem or lack of self-worth, we are restricted. It seems as though we have a road map that leads to nowhere. What we don’t always realize is that we created the road. It is a reflection of what we think about ourselves. We measure the future by the errors of the past. We make agreements with ourselves or others, which we do not keep. We surround ourselves with people and situations that degrade, devalue and limit us. Then we question why we have no confidence. No matter what race we are or what other people think or say about us, the first limitations we must overcome are those we place on ourselves.

New patterns of living are open to me.

Love others as you love yourself?

14 For everything we know about God’s Word is summed up in a single sentence: Love others as you love yourself. That’s an act of true freedom. Galatians 5:14

In the scriptural sense, we are instructed to love others as we love ourselves. This is definitely the way that I want to live my life, however, a lot of people read it and interpret it in the sense of how they treat others. I am however, reviewing the context that we must treat ourselves as well as we treat others. I have been guilty of building up my child, my partner, my friend and coworkers while neglecting myself….

I am reminding myself to be mindful of all my relationships and to give them equal attention.

I once read that there are three significant relationships
1. Relationship with God
2. Relationships with others
3. Relationships with self

Let’s make sure that all relationships are receiving an equal amount of quality time.

Happy Easter

1 Peter 1:3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… (NIV)
